5 Tips for a graphic designer who doesn't know how to work under pressure

Strategies to manage stress, organize files and maintain creativity in tight times...

Working under pressure

We all know the feeling: heart racing, sweaty palms, mind running fast. Whether it's an imminent deadline or a complex project, pressure can sometimes fuel us to perform at our best, but too much of it can be paralyzing.

1. Take a deep breath

When under pressure, our first instinct is to hold our breath. This increases anxiety. Breathe deeply and try to relax your muscles.

2. Make a plan

When feeling overwhelmed, making a plan is the best way out. Break down large deliverables into manageable small tasks. Take it one step at a time.

3. Set internal deadlines

Set a deadline prior to the actual client delivery. This psychological trick helps you focus and get the bulk of the work done earlier.

4. Lean on a support group

A fellow designer, a mentor, or a colleague can offer immense support. Venting or discussing a design roadblock often solves the issue instantly.

5. Step away

Working non-stop degrades the quality of your output. Take regular breaks to clear your head. Walking away from the screen for 10 minutes can bring the exact creative solution you were looking for.
